About Our Project

Our Erasmus+ project is inspired by the European policy actions for preserving our European cultural heritage and aims at discovering our cultural cross influences as well as at combining cultural with environmental sustainability through enterpreneurship in various fileds such as agriculture, and traditional remedies, alternative tourism,​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ sustainable urban planning and architectureand  innovative language learning through cultural immersion.

The project started in September 2018 and ends in June 2021.

Partners

We are members of a strategic partnership among six European schools:

  1. the 3rd Senior High School of Nea Philadelphia in Athens, Greece, named “MILTOS KOUNTOURAS” – coordinator
  2. the Gymnasium Celakowice in the Czech Republic
  3. the Kurt-Schumacher Gesamtschule in Karben, Germany
  4. the Liceo Artistico Luni-Devi in Matera, Italy
  5. the Mersinli Vocational Technical School in Izmir, Turkey
  6. the Collegio Torres Salinas in Murcia, Spain

Our Motivation for joining this project – a whole school approach

Concerned with issues arising from the 21st century financial, cultural and social crisis confronting our students as future European citizens, our schools have been seeking ways of enhancing our student’s sense of active citizenship, intercultural and environmental awareness,enterpreneurship as well as improving their key competences in life skills, language and digital skills.

Learning and Teaching Activities

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE and TRADITIONAL REMEDIES

Our first meeting focus was on Agriculture and Natural Remedies. In order to better understand the notion and the significance of sustainability in these fields, this activity included the following tasks:

  1. collecting seeds that are typical from each of our regions and presenting them in plenum in order to identify their names,uses and health benefits
  2. collecting herbs that are typical from each of our regions and presenting them in plenum in order to identify their names,uses and health benefits
  3. growing fruit and vegetables in an organic garden at each school in order to create a documentary film about organic cultivation practices, which are sustainable
  4. documenting on the spas and balneology sites in each country;
  5. documenting on traditional remedies from each country
  6. preparing a workshop on massage and healing exercise by a Czech therapist

This activity involved developing materials for the presentation of the two pillars of our project: Renewable Energy and Tourism. It was presented in Murcia, Spain from 18 to 22 February, 2019.

It included four different tasks:
1) construction of model solar cars to participate in a contest at the meeting;
2) listing the forms of Renewable Energy that are used in each of our country;
3) preparation of sustainable tourist guide programmes in each of our regions;
4) the collection and promotion of ideas for alternative tourism at local level

This activity aimed at the experiential exchange of languages and migration stories.

It included three diverse tasks:

1) the compilation of a glossary of project terms in all six languages;
2) a study of the migration paths of our ancestors across Europe;
3) designing and conducting mini-(3-hour) courses in each of our languages for experiential peer-teaching

This activity aims at collecting, creating and sharing local tangible and intangible cultural goods in terms of culinary traditions, oral traditions, religious traditions, folklore and entertainment.
It includes three main tasks:
1) collecting, executing and sharing traditional recipes;
2) collecting, documenting on and participating in simulations of ceremonies at different occasions eg. weddings, funerals and celebrations;
3) collecting, documenting and participating in traditional games, dances, performances and myth and tale role-plays

Due to Covid19 Measures , meeting was organized by the host school as Virtual Meeting.

This activity aims at exploring the evolution and assessing the sustainability of our urban planning practices as well as jointly creating artworks inspired by our cultures.

It includes two main tasks:
1) a survey of examples of traditional and modern sustainable urban planning practices across our regions;
2) discovering and explaining the interinfluences among our folklore and modern art;

Due to Covid19 Measures , meeting was organized by the host school as Virtual Meeting.

This activity aims at examining our rural and urban environment with an eye on Culture and the other on Nature.
It includes four different tasks:
1) a survey of examples of traditional and modern sustainable architecture across our regions;
2) discovering and explaining the interinfluences among our regional architectural styles;
3) conducting and reporting on environmental interventions (eg. renaturation, reforestation, beach and river bank cleaning);
4) a comparative study of our ecosystems and their impact on our cultures;
5) the impact of the international Corona-lockdowns on tourism and environment
